From a Thankful Veteran
I am grateful for my time as a service member and for the service of every man and woman who has ever put on the uniform of the US armed forces. It is due to the sacrifice of these warriors that we can enjoy the rights and liberties we do free from tierney, oppression, and persecution. Every American has equal opportunity to raise families, build businesses, chase dreams, secure in the knowledge that our fighting warriors guard the gate.
A few things you may or may not know about Veterans Day…
For one, there’s no apostrophe. It’s not Veteran’s or Veterans’ Day. Originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the cease fire ended the fighting of World War I which happened on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 102 years ago. Though the Treaty of Versailles wasn’t signed for another seven months to officially end the war, November 11th is recognized as the true end of The Great War.
Because so many nations other than the United States were involved in WWI, November 11th is celebrated in similar fashion to our own around the world. The UK, Australia, and Canada all call this day Remembrance Day, though the UK treats it more like Memorial Day to honor the fallen.
This brings up another point. Veterans Day is not Memorial Day. Memorial Day is to honor those who died in battle or after as a result of the wounds they received in battle. Veterans Day is for ALL who have served, living or dead, whether they served in peacetime or war, whether they saw combat or not. We honor them all.
This is why in 1954, after WWII and Korea, Armistice Day was officially changed by congress to what we know it as today in order to pay respect to all who have served.
For nearly 250 years brave men and women have step forward to protect the Constitution and the ideals which make our country great. Because of these proud patriots we can grow as a nation and a people. It is in this respect that we should honor them each and every day of the year by making ourselves and our country worthy of their sacrifice.
We at Extra Ordinary Delights, being a veteran owned company, want to thank all who have served and all who continue to serve. God bless America, the Constitution, and our brave men and women of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Please, join us in saluting our 18.8 million Veterans living in the United States today.
